What kind of ingredients do you use?

We are very careful to make sure we use the highest quality ingredients for our products. All ingredients are cosmetic or food grade and safe to use in our products.

Using high-quality ingredients in skincare products is essential for achieving healthy, radiant skin. When we apply skincare products, we want to know that we are nourishing our skin with ingredients that are safe, effective, and beneficial. High-quality ingredients, such as natural plant extracts, vitamins, and antioxidants, can provide numerous benefits for the skin, including hydration, improved texture, and a brighter, more youthful appearance.

Investing in skincare products made with high-quality ingredients can help to prevent skin damage, reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, and leave your skin looking and feeling its best.

What about Palm Oil?

We are very well aware of the bad reputation palm oil has……

There is no doubt that palm oil has been produced irresponsibly. Forests have been cleared or damaged to grow palm oil, which has impacted both wildlife and local communities. And the workers and farmers producing palm oil in some places have suffered poor working conditions and low pay.

There have been calls to boycott palm oil because of these negative impacts. Yet switching to alternative vegetable oils to palm oil wouldn’t reduce these impacts. Sunflower, rapeseed and soy have much lower yields per hectare than oil palm, so, in fact, more land would be needed to produce an equivalent amount of oil. What’s more, millions of farmers and their families work on oil palm plantations and smallholdings. This provides them with the income for basic essentials such as food, clean water, and housing. Plus it allows many workers to send their children to school.

We only use RSPO certified palm oil which is made minimising the environmental impact of the production process, ensuring the rights of workers and local communities, and supporting the economic development of local communities.

Why do you use essential oils?

Essential oils are basically plant extracts. They’re made by steaming or pressing various parts of a plant (flowers, bark, leaves or fruit) to capture the compounds that produce fragrance. It can take several pounds of a plant to produce a single bottle of essential oil.

Do your products contain parabens or SLS?

No. Our products are free from artificial surfactants (foaming ingredients), such as SLS (sodium lauryl sulfate) or SLES, and our creams and lotions contain no paraben preservatives. They are bad for your skin, drying it out, and damage aquatic environments. We prefer to use natural solutions instead.

Are your products Vegan?

All of our products are vegetarian, with all apart from our balms being vegan.

Our balms contain beeswax so are not classed as vegan. We would never test on animals.

Is your packaging sustainable?

We have thought really carefully about our packaging.

We want in our own small way to not contribute to plastic waste so our packaging is plastic free. This is quite tricky with a cosmetic product, and definitely more expensive than using a poly bag or plastic container!

Our soap is packaged as standard with only a sticker or cigar band. If it has to be put in a bag for some reason, that bag is fully compostable. We do offer a box packaging upgrade should you be gifting your soap, that box is made from cardboard.

Our shampoo bars are packaged either in a compostable bag (it looks like plastic but is in fact made with starch), or a reusable or infinitely recyclable aluminium tin. They need a bit more protection than the soap so need to be put in something for transport.

Our creams are packaged in a glass jar with aluminium lid, or if you’re buying a sample size, the same tins we use for the shampoo bars, they can be washed out and used in a number of ways in your home: storing odds and ends, trinkets, jewellery, making candles etc. We also use the aluminium tins for our balms.

Our shower foamers are sold in a compostable bag.

We post our items out in a recyclable cardboard box secured with paper tape.
